64% of US online teens create user-generated content

64% of US online teens, aged 12 to 17, create user-generated content like videos, photos or blog posts, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The research firm estimates that 39% of teens have posted their own home-made videos or photos online, while 33% of US youngsters have created a webpage or blog for themselves and their family or friends. The research indicates that girls are more likely than boys to post content, with 35% of teenage girls operating a blog, compared with only 20% of boys. However, teenage boys are more interested in posting videos online than girls: 19% of US boys have uploaded videos to webpages, whereas only 10% of girls have. The study found that social networks were the most likely place for teens to post content.
