Online game-show network, PlayCafe has closed a funding round from VC and angel investors, according to reports on Alarm:Clock. The deal for an undisclosed amount will allow PlayCafe to develop its live games platform, which uses video feeds to stream host-based daily quizzes. The deal follows the news that various other online video platform startups have recently secured funding, including Ustream, which completed a USD2m angel round, Seesmic, which raised roughly USD5m, and KushTV which scored an undisclosed amount from various backers.
PlayCafe is a platform that lets users compete for prizes in real time by watching a live, streamed quiz show. Players can play and communicate using a chat tool, whilst competing for prizes that range from small Amazon and iTunes gift cards or ringtones to Nintendo Wii consoles and USD1000 cash. PlayCafe was set up by Mark Goldenson, a former product manager at PayPal, and Dev Nag, formerly a senior engineer at Google. The site has recently launched out of private beta.
